Ready Pet GO! spotlights a “neighborhood within the neighborhood” that does more than provide affordable pet supplies and care to pet owners in need.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — It’s a beacon in the Slavic village community: a safe place for people who consider pets loved ones — and sometimes the only family they have.

“They are there for me unconditionally. She is special protection for me. She would protect me with her life.”

“What we find is that often people will take care of their pets before taking care of themselves. And that’s the consistent theme across the board,” said Becca Britton, founder and executive director of Neighborhood Pets.

“Most people in this neighborhood are on fixed incomes. And some of us can’t afford cat food or dog food. And I come here and take their food. They don’t never refuse,” said Betty, who is a sweetheart. companion of his two cats, “Tiger” and “Benny Foots”.

Working with social service organizations and community partners allows Neighborhood Pets to do more — especially at a time when more is needed.

“You can get help with a gas bill or an electric bill, which is helpful because right now I’m struggling,” Cisar explained. “I’m homeless as well as disabled. So that helps a lot. And they’re also trying to find me accommodation right now too. So they’re great people. I don’t know what I would do without them.”

But Neighborhood Pets’ mission remains the same: to provide affordable resources, so that all pet owners, regardless of income level, can care for and keep their pets.
