EUCLID, Ohio (WOIO) - The 39-year-old Euclid man shot by police last month will be arraigned in Cuyahoga County on Wednesday.

The man was armed with a handgun and is believed to have shot a woman moments before the encounter with officers, said Euclid Police Captain Mitch Houser.

Eric Deon Parham survived the shooting and is currently locked up at the Cuyahoga County Jail.

Captain Houser said officers were called out to Simms Park in the 23100 block of Lakeshore Blvd. around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday for a report of shots fired.

Officers received a description of the suspect and learned he was heading on foot towards Maria’s Family Restaurant in the 22300 block of Lakeshore Blvd., said Captain Houser.

Police quickly located Parham and said they ordered him to lie down on the ground.

Parham allegedly began walking backwards away from police and then turned and reached for a handgun in his waistband.

Captain Houser said that is when two officers shot Parham. He was treated and released at a local hospital before being transported to the jail.

A 9mm semi-automatic handgun was recovered at the scene, said police.

According to Captain Houser, it is believed Parham shot a 42-year-old woman at Simms Park. She is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Parham was wanted by Euclid police for a felonious assault on the same woman that happened on May 17. Captain Houser said shots were also fired during that incident.

The two Euclid officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative duties, per the department’s policy and procedure.

The Ohio Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) is handling the investigation, at the request of Euclid Police Chief Scott Meyer.
