The Lake County Birthday Club celebrated Easter and very special March birthdays with the Deepwood residents on March 23 in Mentor, according to a release from Lake County Treasurer Michael Zuren and the club.

The celebration consisted of recognizing birthdays with proclamations from Lake County, balloons, candy and treats, craft bags, Easter cards from the residents at Abbott’s Manor and Villa Angela-St. Joseph Catholic school, and Easter Bassets from Stacy Kathleen.

Zuren and Theresa Bowes-Koszey sang Happy Birthday and spent time with the residents as they enjoyed the festivities and Easter goodies, the release said.

A special “Thank You” to Stacey Kathleen, the Easter Basket Project, Suzie Malise Cosgrif, and Villa Angela-St. Joseph Catholic school’s peace and justice team, the release stated.

The Lake County Birthday Club started in January2021 to help celebrate birthdays for special needs individuals in Lake County.

Initially, it started with seven volunteer members and focused on personal celebrations throughout the county, according to the release. The birthday club focused on making these celebrations a once-in-a-lifetime experience, by partnering with Heroes United to provide superheroes and/or beloved characters as surprise guests to the parties, invited the local police and fire departments to attend individual celebrations and elected officials who presented proclamations or keys to their cities.

In all, The Lake County Birthday Club has celebrated over 135 birthdays throughout the county.

It is always looking for ways to celebrate individuals. If you would like to get involved, contact Theresa Bowes-Koszey at 440-567-0991 or Michael Zuren at 440-251-5381.
