Motorcyclist dies after crashing into van in Akron

SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) - A 19-year-old motorcycle rider died after he crashed into a van Sunday evening.

Akron police said the accident happened around 10:20 p.m. on S. Hawkins Avenue.

The driver of a Toyota was eastbound on Edgemoor Avenue, when police said she made a left turn onto S. Hawkins Avenue into the path of the motorcycle.

The impact caused the motorcyclist to be thrown off the bike.

EMS transported him to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center where he died from his injuries. Police said he was wearing a helmet.

The victim’s name is not being released at this time.

Police said the crash remains under investigation and the name of the 50-year-old woman who was driving the Toyota is not being released.

Police added alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
