CLEVELAND, Ohio – Two people died in a crash Monday afternoon that closed a portion of Interstate 90 on the city’s West Side, according to police and published reports.

The accident took place about 12:10 p.m. on I-90 in the westbound lane, near West 98th Street. A private garbage truck and a vehicle collided, according to Cleveland fire officials. Authorities have not released the identities of the victims.

Paramedics transported several people to MetroHealth Medical Center, fire officials said.

Cleveland EMS officials confirmed the deaths of two victims, according to WKYC. The Plain Dealer and cleveland.com reached out to EMS officials for more information about the accident.

Police have closed a stretch of the highway to investigate the accident. Officers have not released details of how the crash took place.
