CLEVELAND, Ohio – A 16-year-old girl and a 9-year-old boy died Monday when their vehicle collided with a private garbage truck on Interstate 90.

The office of the Cuyahoga County medical examiner identified the two victims as Iona McCray and Da’Shone McCray, both of Cleveland.

The crash happened about 12:10 p.m. on the I-90 westbound lane, near West 98th Street. Investigators closed a portion of the highway for several hours to investigate.

It is unknown if the driver of the garbage truck suffered injuries from the crash. Cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer reached out to Kimble Recycling & Disposable, Inc. for comments.

Paramedics transported several people to MetroHealth Medical Center after the crash.

Cleveland police did not provide further information on how the crash happened. Police did not describe the familial relationship of the two victims.
