College Grove doesn't have a downtown, but it doesn't seem to matter to wealthy buyers: The rural community is one of most expensive places to live in the South.

Just south of Nashville in Middle Tennessee is Williamson County, home to famous musicians and others in the music business. The county has a handful of communities, from bigger cities, like its hub, Franklin, to small pastoral communities like College Grove - 37046.

In College Grove, private communities with country club-like amenities attract high-end buyers who include executives working in Franklin, which is headquarters to more than 50 national and international corporations.

Hatcher Family Dairy

More than 175 years old, this family farm has a near cult-following for its dairy products, which can be purchased at their small shop on their College Grove property and from more than 90 local groceries, coffee shops and restaurants.

It is in the city’s busy historic downtown district, where other top spots include the Franklin Theatre—first opened in 1937—and Gray’s on Main, a restaurant, bar, music venue and private club.

Fox & Locke

Originally called Puckett’s, this restaurant has great barbecue—but it’s best known for music. Many artists have been discovered here, and big names randomly pop by. It's in Leiper’s Fork, about 27 miles from College Grove.

FirstBank Amphitheater

This 7,500 seat venue is set inside a limestone rock quarry. National touring acts and world-famous local performers play here. It is on the edge of Thompson’s Station, about 12 miles from College Grove.

Arrington Vineyards

About 5 miles from College Grove, this winery is operated in part by country singer Kix Brooks, half of the Brooks & Dunn duo. People bring picnic baskets and enjoy the scenery. There is live music on the weekends.

Event of the year

Since 2015, the Pilgrimage Music & Cultural Festival has taken place every fall in Franklin at a roughly 200 acre horse farm turned park. The two day jamboree features a lineup of musicians from all genres.

Private golf communities
