Thomas, who was the 34th overall pick in June's NBA Draft, played 10 minutes in the first half and was Cleveland’s leading scorer with 10 points. His performance was compared to Brevin Knight's 18 points against Houston in 1997. All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell led Cleveland with 25 points. Coach Kenny Atkinson praised Thomas' performance, stating it was rare for a rookie to be the spark in his first game of the year.
