Motorcyclist dies from injuries in crash in Akron

AKRON, Ohio — A motorcyclist who crashed into a car Tuesday night while trying to pass multiple vehicles on a city street has died of his injuries, police say.
The 51-year-old man died in a hospital Wednesday afternoon, police say. His identity has not been released.
The man was driving a Yamaha motorcycle at “a high rate of speed” south on Brittain Road at about 8:17 p.m. Tuesday in the Goodyear Heights neighborhood when he went left of center and started passing other vehicles, police say. He crashed into a Mazda driving north on Brittain Road that was attempting to turn left into a driveway.
The motorcyclist was taken to Summa Health Akron City Hospital. The 20-year-old male driver of the Mazda also was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police say. A passenger in the Mazda was not injured.
No additional details on the crash were released Thursday.
